Keith is ideally situated for touring the North East of Scotland, being midway between Aberdeen and Inverness. It lies in the valley of the river Isla, some 10 miles from the Moray coast. The history of Keith can be traced back to 700AD when St. Maelrubha of Applecross converted its inhabitants to Christianity. Keith’s connection with the Church continued when the town was granted to Kinloss Abbey by King William the Lionheart. For many years, Keith has been a centre for traditional music and song, and every June hosts one of the country's biggest and best festivals of the Traditional Music and Song Association. The Central Banffshire Farmer’s Club holds the Keith show every August. In addition to the display of livestock, agricultural machinery and many other rural activities are on view.

The Auld Brig in Keith, a packhorse bridge that was built in 1609, is well worth a visit, being the oldest remaining bridge in Banffshire and one of the oldest in Scotland.

The Malt Whisky Trail gives the opportunity to experience the history and the process behind the production of one of the world’s most popular drinks. Strathisla distillery, the oldest working distillery in the highlands and home to Chivas Regal is an ideal starting point.
